The Fall of Man

Taught with Ancient Chinese

This information and more Chinese Charactores can be found here

Ancient Chinese is documented as one of the oldest languages known to man. It is over 5,000 years old. This unique language is made up of “characters” that are pictures. These pictures are put together to make words. Today we are going to have the Ancient Chinese or the Chinese Fathers tell us the Genesis story of the fall of man.

CreateCreateExplThe first Chinese word we are going to look at is Create. Create means to make something out of nothing. Create is made of four pictures: dirt or dust, “Pieh” which means life or movement, mouth, and walking or able to walk.

In Genesis 2:7, the Bible says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

When God created Adam out of the dust of the ground, He breathed the breath of life and man stood up and walked. God did not create man as a baby but a grown man with the ability to walk.

GardenGardenexplHere is the Chinese word for Garden. Has four pictures: surround, enclosure, or protect; dirt or dust; mouth; and character for two people - one coming out of the side of the other.

Genesis 2:8-9 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”

Genesis 2:21-23 “And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

We can use the Bible to explain the meaning behind the Chinese word garden. God created the first garden and here is where He placed Adam, the first man. The first woman, Eve, God formed her out of Adam's rib.

When God created the world, He put Adam and Eve in a perfect garden that He had created for them. Everything was beautiful and good. God gave Adam and Eve one rule. Wouldn't it be nice to have one rule? Only one rule to remember. We are surrounded by rules aren't we? Rules for school and rules your parents set for home. Even as adults we have rules. For instance, when we drive there are hundreds of rules that we have to follow.

But God gave Adam and Eve one rule:

Genesis 2:15-17 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

One rule with a big consequent or punishment, wasn't it? One tree they could not eat of or they would die.

ForbidForbidexplLet us look at the Chinese word for Forbid. Forbid means to command someone not to do something. To warn, prohibit, restrict, or prevent. The Chinese character forbid is made of two parts: two trees, and a form of the word God. Literally means: proclaim, manifest, exhibit, reveal. When the hook is added on the bottom a verb is formed.

When God made mankind He gave us a free will. We can choose to follow God or reject Him. God did not make us robots with no choice. He wanted us to choose to fellowship with Him and have a relationship with Him. God knew the future but He still created the tree of the “knowledge of good and evil.” He loved Adam so He warned or forbid him to eat of that tree.

Imagine how life in the garden was perfect for Adam and Eve. There was no sin. No fighting, misunderstandings, or hard feelings between Adam and Eve. The Bible says that in the cool of the evening God would come down and fellowship with His creation. This fellowship was very sweet as there was no sin between them and God. They loved God and God loved them.

DevilDevilExplThe Bible does not say how much time pasted. Just that it happened. This is the Chinese character for Devil. The devil hates God. In Isaiah, the Bible talks about how he led a revolt against God and how he fell from Heaven. In fact, the Bible says in Matthew 25:41 that Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels, not mankind. The devil hates man because God loves us. This character shows four words: “Pieh” means life or motion, field or garden, man or son, and secretly or private.

Let us put this together: the devil moved into the garden in the form of a serpent to speak privately to the woman with the voice of a man.

temptertempterExplThe Devil tempted Eve. This is the word for Tempter. It has three parts: Devil, two trees, and cover or covering. Under the cover of the two trees the devil came and tempted Eve.

Let us compare this to the Bible:

Genesis 3: 1-5 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

SorrowSorrowExplThis is the word for Sorrow. It has two parts: two trees and a piece or a part of.

Genesis 3:6 says, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

When Eve and Adam ate a piece of the fruit they disobeyed God and sin entered the world. Sin and disobedience always brings sorrow.

HideHideExplThis is the word Hide. It has three parts: body, is (nearly, practically, almost), and tree.

Genesis 3:7-8 “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.”

Adam and Eve tried to hide their nakedness by sewing fig leaves together. Then they hid from God among the trees in the garden. They could not hide from God.

God asked them what they had done. Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent. Sin had entered the world. God told them the punishment for their sins but He also gave a promise. That one day He would make a way for them to be reconciled to Him.

I am so thankful that God had a plan. John 3:16-18 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

On that day long ago, God shed the blood of innocent animals to clothe Adam and Eve with a temporary coving. Genesis 3:21 “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” God showed them a picture of His plan.

RighteousnessRighteousnessExplThis is the Chinese word for Righteousness. It has two parts: a sheep and I or me. The uniqueness is in how it is pictured. To be right with God a lamb has to cover me or I. It is personal. John the Baptist said in John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” The Ancient Chinese knew God's promise and His plan.

The only way to be righteous with God is to have the blood of Jesus Christ covering your sins. When you ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins His blood is applied to your account. Romans 5:8-9 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” The word justified means just like we never sinned.

Do you have Jesus' blood covering your sins? You cannot go to Heaven without it.

Creation

Scripture: Genesis 1-2

Day1
Day2
Day3
Day4
Day5
Day6

Day 1

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

To Create means to make something out of nothing. On the first day of creation God created light. He separated light from darkness. God called the light “Day” and the darkness “night.”Turn on a light (flashlight, light-switch, etc.) explain God said “Let there be light and there was light.”

Day 2

On the second day God made the firmament. This is the atmosphere.

Everyone take a deep breath. On the second day God created the air you breath. Ask any scientist - the earth has the perfect life sustaining atmosphere. When astronauts go to the moon they have to take their own oxygen. God made the earth unique with the perfect blend of oxygen and hydrogen.

Day 3

Genesis 1: 9 “And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.”

On the third day, God created the land. God called the dry land Earth and the waters Seas. He also created grass, trees, vegetables and all plant life on day three. Have children name different plants God created: broccoli, corn, carrots, apple trees, etc.

Day 4

On day four, God made the Sun, Moon, and stars. He made the Sun to rule the day and the moon to rule the night.

When the Sun comes up in the morning you are suppose to get out of bed and you know it is night time when the sun goes down.Think about this – God created all of those thousands and thousands of stars in the sky for us to enjoy at night. How many of you get a way from the city lights and have seen all of beautiful stars that God made?

Day 5

On the fifth day, God created all the fish in the sea and all the fowl of the air.

Have the children name types of sea creatures: whales, fish, octopuses, dolphins, etc...Then have them help you name different types of birds: seagulls, robins, pigeons, parrots, etc...

Day 6

It was day six when God created all the rest of the animals. He made gigantic animals like an elephant all the way to the little bugs. Have the children name different animals from: lion, bears, grasshoppers, etc...

Then God made something special. He made a man in His own image - He created Adam. From the dust of the ground He breathed the breath of life and He made man with a living soul. God made us different then animals we have eternal souls that will never die.God brought all the animals to Adam to name. Can you imagine coming up with the name rhinoceros? There was male and female of all creatures that God had made, but only one Adam. God looked at His creation and up to this time everything was good. But God said (Genesis 2:18) “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”So God made Adam fall into a deep sleep and God took one of Adam's ribs and made a woman. God created a woman to be a help meet for Adam.

Day 7

On the seventh day, God rested. He created everything in the first six days and pronounced it good. Did God need a day to rest? No. God made the seventh day holy for us. God knew man needed a day of rest and He set aside that day to stop work and think about Him.
